After 16 years of drug and alcohol addiction, Ty was delivered by, and received salvation, from our Lord Jesus on January 25, 2015. Shortly after, he started attending Most Excellent Way and soon became involved on its leadership team. He continues to lead a Most Excellent Way men’s class weekly at Righteous Roots. After trying multiple rehabs and everything else under the sun, Ty has found that a relationship with Jesus Christ is the only way to be truly set free from addiction. He does not live as a recovering addict, but as a healed man. He is happily married to his wife, Linda, and enjoys serving in any type of outreach ministry. He attends and is very active at his church, Grace Assembly Christian Church.
Life Verse: “15 This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. 16 But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.” 1 Timothy 1:15-16

Katie surrendered her life to the mission field 10 years ago. When Righteous Roots began, she knew she wanted to be part of it. Life Verse: “6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4: 6-7
Melanie Webb Diserens
Melanie wears many hats. She is a single mom to 6 kids, Founder/President of Righteous Roots, High School teacher, and the Worship Director at First Baptist Church Flat where she has been commissioned as a missionary. Melanie has experience in foster care, adoption, and parenting children who have been abused. Melanie started Righteous Roots after walking her family through their own experience with sexual abuse. Laurie is a devoted wife, mother to 3 amazing children, and a Gigi to her beautiful grandchildren. She homeschools her teenage son, leads ladies Bible studies, and serves as a bookkeeper/secretary at First Baptist Church of Flat where she also has been commissioned as a missionary. Laurie has fought her own battle caused by past sexual and physical abuse. After many years of being identified by those past abuses, Laurie now walks in the truth, freedom, and love Christ has for her. Laurie surrendered to Righteous Roots with a deep desire to help others that have been bound by chains of abuse find that same freedom through Jesus Christ. We don’t have to live bound by the chains of our past. We can control those chains and live in the freedom Christ died for us to live in.
Life verse: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
Blackston (Bobby) Bird
Bobby was saved at a little, country church revival in Bertram, TX at about 12 years of age. As he grew older, the lure of the world became his addiction. He became consumed with worldly desires instead of God’s desires for his life. In 1982, his life, situation, and circumstances brought him back to the reality he needed God to control and direct his life. Bobby has since been involved in many ministries such as teaching Sunday School, ministering within state and federal prisons, serving as a deacon, and leading Most Excellent Way. He has been married to his wife, Sandra, for 35 years, and they enjoy serving together within their community and church, First Baptist Church Flat.
